The narrator questions the utilitarianism theory, which holds that the best action is the one that brings the highest benefits with minimal negatives.Īccording to the narrator, utilitarianism should be redefined to entail a form of free will that covers, “one’s own free unfettered choice, one’s own caprice- however wild it might be, one’s own fancy worked up at times to a frenzy…most advantageous advantage” (Dostoevsky 20). It almost seems like feel-good PG family horror until the derpy cryptid shows up and slaughters some kids out on a bike ride. So, this movie starts off pretty slowly and kind of innocently. Third things third: This is a very early appearance of Jason Priestley, pre-heartthrob. Second things second: There are a lot of folks in this movie sporting a lot of large hair resembling fluffed wool caterpillars. His snotty overexcited punkiness just doesn’t fit the tone the film is (I think) going for. ![]() First things first: Corey Haim is terrible in this movie. The OXCOM is pretty upset, always trying to kill the dog and anyone that gets in its way of said dog-killing. Here, Haim stumbles upon an extra-smart golden retriever that’s escaped from a recently exploded laboratory and that’s being chased by a sloppy bigfoot creature called an OXCOM (Outside Experimental Combat Mammal - at least that’s what Wikipedia tells me I don’t recall hearing the acronym actually defined in the movie). Starring: Corey Haim, Michael Ironside, Christopher Caryįollowing Silver Bullet (1985) and The Lost Boys (1987), Watchers was another attempt to ride the Corey Haim train through the horror tunnel, with this movie based on a well-regarded Dean Koontz novel from 1987 (which I haven’t read). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() All I know was that the early buzz for this series was good, so it ended up on my Amazon wish list.Īnd now that I’ve read it, I can see why Deadly Class got all that comics internet hype, and can agree that it deserves it. I somehow missed Deadly Class when it dropped initially, probably due to like 500 Image #1s dropping with a ton of hype surrounding them this year alone. I’m a fan of Remender, who’s personally sold me a bunch of creator own series that I really dug in the past. One of the trades was the first volume of Deadly Class by Rick Remenderand Wes Craig. I had a flight to Atlanta recently, so grabbing a few birthday trades to read on the flight sounded like a great plan. ![]() My TPBs backlog is already about several comics deep and includes an X-men omnibus I should probably get around to reading, but the gifts were welcomed none the less, because comics are GREAT.
